Legislative Updates from Rep. Ozinga

Invest in Kids Update

During our 2023 Fall veto session, legislation to continue the Invest in Kids Scholarship Program was never called for a vote. Invest in Kids is a scholarship program that benefits low-income children by providing them with scholarships to private schools.

Because of a provision in the initial legislation, the funding for this program had a ‘sunset date’ at the end of 2023. This means that without action from the General Assembly, 10,000 children will lose their scholarships at the end of this academic year.

I recently filed House Bill 4691 to extend the sunset date for the 10,000 children who will be forced to leave their current schools and for future generations of students who deserve a chance at a good education.

Valentines for Vets

This year I am hosting my third annual Valentines for Vets program! Anyone interested in participating can drop off cards at my district office, located at 11019 Front St, Suite 1W in Mokena through Monday, February 12th. The cards will be delivered to veterans residing at the Manteno Veterans Home in time for Valentine’s Day.

There is always more we can do to support our veterans. This program is a way for us to honor our veterans by showing them support and appreciation. I know many veterans look forward to receiving these cards each year, and I am excited to see our community come together for this program.
